You have an analog video not made with a video camera and your video is on 8mm film. If this is the case you can have

your film transferred to Tape, CD or DVD. Generally speaking this can’t be done very well at home as you need expensive

equipment to convert the film to video. You could project the video on to a screen and video tape it using a video camera to

record the images and sound. While this is a bit crude if you are on a tight budget it could be made to work.

If you do not have the time or patience to do this then consider using a service for this part of the process. There are usually

businesses in most small towns that provide film to video conversion. If your town is very small and does not have this service

then you will have to ship the film to a company that will do this for you.

These videos will still have to be converted from their presnt video format to a streaming format. The first step after you have made a video of some event a birthday party, Christmas day or a sporting event you will now need to upload that video into your computer using a video capture card or device.

All of the DV/FireWire cards on the market deliver the identical video quality and all of them have the identical video specs - 720x480 image size, 29.97 frames per second, and a data rate of 3.6 megs per second. With all of these cards, you need a gig of storage for each 4.5 minutes of DV video. So video quality is not an issue. The next phase after you have the proper video capture card and software package is to begin the import of your video into your computer. Follow the directions of the video capture program and import the video. There are as you have read many formats that you can capture to for streaming over the Internet. I recommend an one of the following Windows (AVI / DivX), mpeg or a Windows media file type such as .wmv or .asf format. These formats can be encoded and streamed directly to the Internet using the Cambrosia Transmitter and the Windows Media Encoder.

If the Video Capture software does not provide the proper format I highly recommend using Dr. DivX Software to Capture the Video into your computer. This software is easy to use and provides excellent quality.

Of course the details of the actual video capture are slightly different for each different capture device used. The overall process is the same though.

1. You start with a video source usually a Video Cassette Player or Video camera. You connect the video source to the Digital video capture device via RCA audio video cables or SVideo cables.

2. You then start the digital capture software that has come with your digital video capture device. Set it to the record mode.

3. You then set the video player to play and if everything is connected properly the capture session will start.

4. Continue capturing the video until the end of the video.

5. Stop the capture session within the software and stop the video player.

6. At this point it should be noted that there are many different video capture software packages available.

Microsoft has one called Movie Maker and its free.

Dr. DivX also has excellent video capture software and I highly recommend using it. It is easy, versatile and the quality is excellent.

7. You should try and capture to a streamable format from the get go. If you do not do that, then you will have to encode/convert the captured format to the proper format. This is very time consuming and you want to avoid that if at all possible. Once again if you need to do that then you can use Dr. DivX or another video conversion type software to do that.

8. Now that you have your video in the proper format for streaming you have 2 choices for how to deliver your streaming video.

1. Use the Cambrosia Transmitter Software.

2. Upload the entire file to a http Webserver and then create a link in your web page that points to it. Option 2 can get expensive as the files can be

very, very large and your web service provider will definitely want to charge you more money for using up their disk space. Also you have to have a

website. You do not need a website for option 1.

Basically that is all there is to it for creating pre-recorded streaming video for the internet.
